MALTON & Norton Under-13s played a touring Leigh side with both clubs fielding two teams each - but the Ryedale Warriors outfit lost both matches 6-3.
Charlie Blackburn was at the centre of the Warriors’ creative play, with Josh Britton, Ben Edwards and Thomas Barker all playing well, but the youngsters just couldn’t score enough tries.
Malton Crusaders had more success, however, winning both of their matches. They won 6-3 and 5-3, with Fabien Marras and Oliver Kelsey in fine form and with Jack Thomas and Peter Hudson also on the score sheet.
The club held their end-of-season awards, with Blackburn named the player of the year.
Edwards collected the most improved player, with Josh Britton highlighted as best newcomer.
The players’ player of the year was Kelsey, with the clubman award going to Harvey Stone.
Peter Hudson picked up the Hit Man Trophy.
In a further boost, the club was awarded the Dennis Cobbold Shield for the season from the Yorkshire RFU.
It recognised that, as a rugby club with a large age-grade section, chiefs dealt with issues promptly and effectively and maintained a strong safeguarding presence throughout the club.
