MALTON & Norton Under-14s edged Middlesbrough 36-31 in a great game in which the lead changed hands several times.
Middlesbrough struck first but George Austin-Thompson replied with a dash down the wing. Minutes later Jack Villa-Fordon raced in from half-way for a spectacular try in the corner.
The second half saw Boro bag two quick scores and then another, after Austin-Thompson had replied.
However, a try from the side-stepping Freddie Lockwood and one from a loan player from Middlesbrough gave Malt a narrow advantage. This became a decisive lead when Austin-Thompson kicked ahead for Villa-Fordon to win the chase and control the ball for a superb try, Matthew Jefferson landing his third conversion.
Middlesbrough scored again in the final minute of an entertaining match.
Malton & Norton U13s beat Beverley 44-15 after a good performance at home.
Malton set the pace straight from the kick-off, when Beverley made a mistake and Thomas Barker pounced to race through and score.
Ben Edwards crossed after a good kick over the defence, and Fabien Marras crossed in the corner after some good hands along the backs.
Malton then switched off, and Beverley took advantage with two tries to make the interval score 15-10.
Malton upped their game and started the second half like the first, with plenty of energy. Thomas Milton-Wright scored his first try for the club, with a great drive from a penalty 10 metres out.
Marras got his second before Oliver Kelsey got a brace either side of a Beverley try. Edwards capped victory with his second try of the day late on when he burst through the defence. Adam Finlinson added two conversions.
Malton & Norton U12s continued their superb run of form at an excellent six-way friendly festival at West Park Leeds - coming away as the only unbeaten team.
The team beat Harrogate 26-7, Selby 28-7, and the hosts 42-7, and drew 7-7 with Otley and Roundhegians.
