BROOKLYN Under-12s warmed up a chilly morning by beating Tadcaster Magnets Blues 4-0 in the York & Ryedale Mitchell League.
A neat finish from Lewis Saunders was followed by a Thomas Davies long-range strike creeping in after the keeper fumbled. Billy Leech closed down the defence and ran through to slot home the third.
Brooklyn had lots of the play in the second half but did not make it pay until good work from man-of-the-match Eden Cross saw Leech square the ball for Logan Clive to tap in.
The previous week, Brooklyn U12s edged York RI Galaxy 2-1 thanks to a free-kick from man-of-the-match Davies and a diving header from Rowan Ford set up by Joe Boyes. Captain Josh Mann starred with four goals in depleted Old Malton’s 8-5 win at Dunnington.
Malt led 4-1 in the first half with the wind behind them, but Dunnington kept fighting back and at one point trailed only 6-5 before Mann fired home his fourth from 25 yards and Alex Horton converted Nathan Dolphin’s cross to seal victory.
Other Malton goals came from Charlie Thompson with a well-struck shot, Jack Mudd-Bowes and Dolphin.
A first-class display saw Brooklyn U11s Lions continue their unbeaten run in division two with a 7-1 win at Rawcliffe Warriors.
Ethan Oakes hit five goals, but it was a team show, with Matthew Lock and Lucas Croft the other marksmen and defender Oliver Towse the man of the match. l THE draws for the Scarborough & District FA’s minor cup semi-finals will be made later this month.
