RYEDALE School won the Year 8 Ryedale & Whitby partnership rugby union tournament and will now progress to the district final at Scarborough RUFC.
The team, led well by Toby Higgs, produced an excellent all-round display in winning all of their games on the night. Playing Malton School first, Ryedale dominated but the scores were level towards the end before a brilliant piece of play by Elliott Hutchinson in ripping the ball off an opponent led to Dan Ward scoring in the corner.
Ryedale beat Lady Lumley’s, Pickering, 10-0 in their next game with Rob Firby and Higgs scoring the tries. Facing Whitby in the final game, Ryedale let loose and scored six tries in an excellent display of attacking rugby. Aidan Taylor (3), Ward, Higgs and Hutchinson were the scorers.
Ryedale School’s Year 9 netball team stormed into the semi-finals of the Scarborough & District Cup with a stunning 60-0 win at Filey. With one girl breaking her finger in the warm-up, Ryedale were slightly weakened, but excellent performances from Faye Thornton and Grace Walker saw them to a comprehensive victory.
Ryedale School’s Year 10 hockey team, meanwhile, reached the final of their district cup after a tight semi-final against Scarborough College. Goals from Hattie Braithwaite, Alice Hall and Laura Laycock won the game.
Ryedale School’s Key Stage 3 girls’ football team won their Scarborough & District Cup first round tie in style. Goals from Fay Thornton (4), Lucie Nicholls (3), Ceri Stone (3) and Grace Walker brought an 11-0 win over Pindar School.
