TRIBUTES have been paid to a York football fan who has died at just 23.
York City Football Club social media fan page SC Block Reds have reported that Connor Abbott, 23, was a well-known City supporter attending home matches in the South Stand, while also often following his club away from home.
They say he started following City while they still played their football at Bootham Crescent when he was a teenager, and that he maintained that loyal support upon their move to the LNER Community Stadium on the outskirts of the city in 2021.
York City say that tributes are set to take place on Saturday, September 28 when York welcome Eastleigh to the LNER Community Stadium (3pm), with Adam Hinshelwood’s side potentially able to move into first position in the Vanarama National League.
Supporters are planning to hold a minute’s applause in the 23rd minute in memory of Connor, as well as displaying a banner.
City co-chairman Matt Uggla paid his respects to Connor, saying on social media: “Rest in peace Connor. Absolutely awful news to lose a member of the York family especially so young.
“My thoughts are with his family and friends.
“Please everyone who is coming along on Saturday give Connor the send-off he deserves and take part in the 23rd minute.”
