WOMBLETON Wanderers are the early leaders in newitts.com Beckett League Division One, cementing their superiority with an emphatic away day at Goal Sports.
A treble from David Thompson, a brace from Jack Simpson plus a Gary Adamson strike did the damage at the George Pindar as they came away with a resounding 6-0 triumph.
Ayton remain second but are three points adrift after being edged out 3-2 at Amotherby & Swinton.
The hosts started like a train, racing into a three-goal lead before the half time whistle sounded.
George Pierson netted twice before Sam Flinton added a third five minutes before the break.
But if the first half had belonged to Amotherby, the second certainly fell the way of the Scarborough outfit.
Ayton fought back through Elliott Spurr and Jack Brown but couldn’t find the elusive equaliser to keep themselves in the hunt for top spot.

Snainton join them on six points, gaining their second victory of the new campaign away at Milburn Fields after beating last-placed Rosedale 2-0.
Both of their goals came in the opening half through Regan Hewitt and George Hirst.
Neither side carried any real threat after the break, but though the hosts had an opportunity for a late fightback, Alastair Wilkinson could only put his spot kick from 12 yards over the bar.
Elsewhere in the division, Thornton Dale fell to a 3-1 defeat at home to Kirkdale United.
The visitors took an early lead through Nathan Surgenor, but Thornton hit back just after the interval, with Jack South’s effort helped into the back of the net by a deflection.
Surgenor’s second restored Kirkdale’s lead before 17-year-old Harry Bowsher made sure of victory by scoring an all-important third.
Early Division Two leaders Heslerton fought back from a 4-1 deficit to salvage a draw at newcomers Danby in an Easton Lane goal-fest.
Harvey Clacherty fired the hosts into an early lead before Morgan Kendrew levelled the scores in what proved to be a very open affair.
Mark Raw though sent the Moorlanders in at half time with a slender advantage, and they soon built on that, Clacherty adding a second before a Jack Dowson finish looked to have earned a first victory for the newly-established club.
Heslerton however, had other ideas, finishing the game strongly with a poacher’s goal from Matty Bean, a powerful header from captain Olly Stanton and a deserved equaliser from defender Josh Wade.
Goldsborough joined Heslerton at the top of the table with a comprehensive 5-1 win over visiting Ryedale.
Luca Clasper was on target twice for the hosts, as was captain Ben Watson, with Ben Duell also getting in on the scoring act.
Luke Shepherd notched Ryedale’s only consolation on an afternoon to forget.
Lealholm won by the same scoreline against last-placed Sinnington, with David Welham scoring twice in as many minutes midway through the first half.
John Ventress made it three before the interval, and then added a fourth midway through the second half to compound the visitors’ woes.
Sam Russell wrapped up the scoring, with substitute Jack Balderson hitting Sinners’ only reply.
After a tough afternoon last time out, Amotherby and Swinton Reserves fared better against unbeaten Bagby & Balk, with a strong second half seeing them run out 4-2 victors.
David Cocks gave Bagby an early lead, but that was soon cancelled out by Nathan Cross to leave the game level at the interval.
An early second half goal by Jamie Scurry put the hosts in front before Cross grabbed his second to open up some breathing space.
Bagby hit back immediately via a Reece Windle penalty before Reserves Captain Alex Croall gave the home side enough of an advantage to take maximum points.
Honours were even at Bloomfield Park as Fishburn Academy welcomed Slingsby in the only other match in the division.
Harry Coates and William Blake were on target for the hosts, with Anthony Taylor netting either side of half time for the visitors.
