AMOTHERBY & Swinton’s recent rejuvenation came to a shuddering halt as no fewer than 13 goals were shared in their newitts.com Beckett League Division Two goal-fest at Heslerton.
Morgan Kendrew gave Hessie an early lead after converting from Tom Stockdale’s cross, and before the visitors could steady themselves, they were two goals behind, Kendrew turning provider for Sam Besau to head home a first goal for the club.
A sloppily conceded penalty saw Alex Croall pull a goal back from 12 yards, but it wasn’t long before Heslerton restored their cushion, with Stockdale netting twice.
Besau’s cross was then turned by an Amotherby defender into his own net as the goals kept flowing for the hosts before the young winger scored his second, and Heslerton’s sixth.
Croall’s second of the match brought a close to the first half goal-fest.
The hosts began the second half as they had the first, with Kendrew once more the provider for Besau to complete his hat-trick. Stockdale fancied a treble too but could only head over the bar.
Kendrew then teed up captain Jamie Atkinson to make it eight before a rare Amotherby attack resulted in an Ethan Chan handball, with Croall making no mistake from the spot to complete his hat-trick.
However, that did little to affect the final result, and with Matty Bean taking full advantage of a tired back line, Chan, and then Seb Marras, added their names to the scoresheet from 12 yards to wrap up the scoring.
Reece Windle notched a second hat-trick of the season as Bagby & Balk ran out 4-1 winners against visitors West Pier.
Ed Burnside was also on target for the hosts, with Paul Provins firing home a consolation for the Scarborough side.
The first Whitby derby of the season saw Goldsborough claim the bragging rights with a 2-0 victory against Fishburn Park Academy thanks to goals from Andy Martin and Ben Watson.
Elsewhere, Sinnington moved off the bottom of the table thanks to a 3-3 draw at Slingsby.
Jack Vincent’s opened the scoring on the quarter-hour, but despite Oliver Dade bringing Slingsby level, it didn’t take long for Vincent to score his, and his side’s second.
Martin Crick again levelled the scores, but after Aidan Taylor had struck what seemed likely to be a winning goal for Sinnington late on, Anthony Taylor ensured that the hosts would take a share of the spoils with 10 minutes left to play.
Division One action included an action-packed A170 derby between Ayton and neighbouring Snainton.
After a steady start, Ayton took the lead through Eric Hall before Zac Hansen doubled their advantage on the half-hour.
Hansen then grabbed his second, before completing his hat-trick, the pick of the goals a lob over the Snainton goalkeeper from 30 yards.
The second half continued in a similar fashion, with the hosts dominating proceedings. Elliot Spurr added a fifth before Snainton scored what would inevitably be a mere consolation.
Ethan Pashby then finished things off, restoring Ayton’s five-goal advantage in a resounding victory.
Kirkdale United travelled to take on newly promoted Goal Sports.
Nathan Surgenor got the visitors off to a great start midway through the first half, and 10 minutes after the break, they doubled their lead with Will Pepler finishing sweetly.
Just after the hour mark however, the tables began to turn.
Substitute Brad Cawkwell fired in a quick double to level proceedings before Jordan Peet fired the home side ahead.
And with less than 10 minutes remaining Cawkwell completed his hat-trick to complete the turnaround.
Away from the league, the first round of the Ryedale Hospital Cup pitted Division One outfit Amotherby & Swinton against Beckett League newcomers Danby.
Mcauley Lacey netted either side of George Pierson’s effort to hand the hosts a comfortable half-time lead.
The second half brought more woe for Danby as Josh Towse made it four, with Pierson then grabbing his second.
Oliver Towse then wrapped things up for Amotherby but Kyle Clacherty ensured there was no clean sheet for home ‘keeper Paddy Thorpe as he scored a late consolation for the visitors.
