THERE was debut delight for the newly-formed Ryedale Junior Netball Club at their first tournament in Scarborough last month.
The event, held at St Augustine’s Secondary School, brought together a raft of young netball enthusiasts for a day of friendly competition and community spirit.
No finals, trophies or certificates were contested, for it was a day that focused purely on experience, enjoyment and fun.
Ryedale faced off against teams from Scarborough and Hull and it didn’t take long for them to adapt to the day’s fast-paced environment.
Coach Hazel was proud to see just how far the club had come in the short time since its establishment, enthusing: “It’s incredible to see how far these girls have come.
"Their dedication and passion for netball is inspiring.
“This wouldn’t have been possible without our dedicated team of volunteers who work so hard to develop the club.
“Without their time, and the grant from Pickering Town Council we wouldn’t have been able to progress this far so quickly.”
Set up by a group of volunteers in October, the club provides weekly training sessions for players in school years five to nine at Lady Lumley’s School in Pickering.
Such has been their growth in popularity, the club are now able to welcome players from additional year groups.
Encouraged by their debut, they now plan to participate in more tournaments, alongside continuing their training, over the coming months.
