FLAT jockey Oisin Orr enjoyed a successful weekend in the saddle after scoring a hat-trick of wins at Beverley racecourse on Saturday.

Based in Malton and stable jockey to Richard Fahey, Orr’s first part of his treble came aboard Uncle Don for his Musley Bank trainer.

The son of Oasis Dream was a comfortable winner of the Class Five EBF Maiden Stakes over five furlongs for two-year-olds.

Racing in the formidable Middleham Park Racing silks, Uncle Don recorded his first victory on a racecourse on only his second ever run.

He holds an entry in the William Hill Two Year Old Trophy (Listed Race) at Redcar in October, a race in which his trainer has won on two occasions.

Fahey saddled Darkanna to success in 2017 before Summer Sands landed the prize two years later.

Orr returned victorious in the following race aboard the William Haggas-trained Persain Blue, to record a quick fire double and secure his second of the trio of wins he eventually went on to land.

Persain Blue was another horse tasting success for the first time, on this occasion it had taken the gelding eight attempts.

The pair ran out ready winners of the third race on the card, the Class Six George Kilburn Memorial Handicap over the minimum trip.

It wasn’t until the final race that Orr sealed his treble and it was another for the Newmarket trainer, Haggas.

Little Rose was another comprehensive winner for the in-form rider, as they teamed up to success in the Class Six Weatherby’s Bloodstock Pro Handicap over a distance of one mile and two furlongs.

The 2017 Apprentice Champion from Northern Ireland grew up in the quiet coastal village of Rathmullan, right on the tip of the country.

The sleepy, secluded, habitat has proved to be a hotbed of riding talent with a handful of Donegal jockeys to have grown up riding on the local beach there, with Orr kicking up sand alongside the likes of Dylan Browne McMonagle.

“There have been a few of us who went to school together who have gone on to be jockeys,” he told the Racing Post.

“I don’t think there’s much else to do around there – that could be one of the reasons.”

Orr was crowned top jockey at Beverley Racecourse in 2023 and with his impressive treble at the weekend, he looks well on course to defend that title.

He currently leads the Churchill Tyres Top jockey standings with six winners from just 18 rides.

The Ryedale-based rider continued his success in the saddle into Sunday where he was victorious at Ayr this time for Archie Watson.

Orr recorded his first win in Britain for the Lambourn trainer after Regheeb showed his class in the feature race at the Scottish track.

The Chestnut gelding scored impressively in the Class Three Summer Mile Handicap to continue the rider’s strong run of form.

The four-year-old racing in the yellow and black silks of owner Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum, was 18th in the Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot on his last start but defied a weight of 10st 3lb to win comfortably.

Orr was enjoying just his second winner for the Berkshire stable, almost four years on from partnering Glen Shiel to win the Group 3 Phoenix Sprint Stakes at the Curragh.

Speaking after Regheeb’s win the 26-year-old rider told Racing TV: “He enjoyed taking a lead and won well in the end.

“He’s had some really good runs but so was this.  I always felt like I was going to get to them and he quickened up nicely.

“I rode a winner for Archie in Ireland so it’s great to get another over here.”
