“YOUR memory will forever fuel our steps, guiding us forward with each mile as we carry your spirit within our hearts.”
That is how Pickering Running Club will remember Heather Farrow, who has passed away at the age of 66.
Heather died peacefully at St Catherine’s Hospice on April 20 after a long and brave battle with cancer.
A fond friend to many, Heather was also a loving mother, grandmother and sister.
She was able to see her new-born grandson in Australia, who had been born just days prior, via video call - something she had been fighting hard to live for.
Heather was a tremendous athlete, competing as a swimmer at county level before becoming a talented runner in her later life.
She tackled every challenge with joy, enthusiasm and determination, earning her countless achievements and trophies across the years – including numerous Hardmoors age group victories and two good for age places in the London Marathon.
Running the London Marathon in 2019 in a fantastic time of four hours and 10 minutes, she would have had a guaranteed place in the 2020 edition, but it was not meant to be.
Heather however continued to take great pleasure in witnessing the achievements of others and was a great source of inspiration to the members of the running club.
Ruth Hope paid a heart-warming tribute to her on behalf of Pickering Running Club.
She said: “In loving memory of a cherished friend, whose presence brightened every stride and whose laughter echoed along every path we ran together.
“Through the shared passion of running, we discovered not only the joy of the open road but also the enduring bond of friendship.
“Your kindness, encouragement and unwavering support inspired us all to reach new heights, both on and off the track.
“Your memory will forever fuel our steps, guiding us forward with each mile as we carry your spirit within our hearts.
“Though you may no longer run beside us, your light continues to shine brightly, illuminating the trails of our lives with warmth and love. Rest easy, dear friend.”
