MALTON twins Lucy Barker and Kate Barker are flying high in hockey after earning call-ups to the England squad.
The pair, who study at Scarborough College, were among the four players to earn places with the Under-15s England Hockey Performance Centre squad following successful trials in Doncaster.
Lucy and Kate have demonstrated "the high calibre skill base necessary to earn an invite to The Performance Centre trials," following "consistent performances over recent months for Scarborough College, (their) clubs and North Yorkshire", enthused a college spokesperson.
''These are outstanding achievements and everybody at Scarborough College are very proud of these pupils,'' said director of sport Mr Cunningham. ''All have of whom have demonstrated dedication over a number of years and are great ambassadors to Scarborough College."
The City of York Hockey Club duo were also called up by a North East representative squad which took on the North West in a match which took place prior to the second lockdown.
Scarborough College's Beth Hiley and Isabella Holdsworth, both from Leeds Hockey Club were also called up England.
Meanwhile, Driffield Hockey Club's Eve Naylor has earned a place on The Diploma of Sporting Excellence programme while Jack Lucas, also of Driffield, is in the North East Boys' squad.
