GREAT Habton have lost out in the race for the Derwent Valley League crown and promotion to the Scarborough Beckett League after defeat in their title decider.
The Ryedale side, in their last match of the season, were beaten by 59 runs by new champions Flamborough, who therefore sealed the title with a game to spare.
Home team Flamborough totalled 184-7, Andy Dixon leading the way with 67 as Jordan Allanby claimed 3-33.
Habton were then all out for 125, John Lumley (31) and Liam Allanby (27) the top-scorers as both Harry Burton and James Cobb finished with 3-23.
Great Habton will finish the season as runners-up.
Lockton ended their campaign with a big 138-run win at Forge Valley 3rds.
Simon Oxendale (119) hit a fine century and Simon Boyes weighed in with 84 as the visitors rattled up 228-4. Valley were bowled out for just 90 as Keith Eddon took 3-36 and John Lay 3-27.
Lockton lie third but Muston can still catch them if they pick up nine points in their last match. Muston were handed maximum points on Saturday as opponents Whitby 3rds were unable to raise a team.
Kirkbymoorside 2nds beat Snainton in a low-scoring game to make sure runners-up spot in division ‘B’ goes down to the wire.
Second-placed Wold Newton 2nds had to settle for a draw at Sherburn 2nds – maybe thankful rain came to spare them from a possible defeat – meaning their advantage was cut to 11 points ahead of their trip to Kirkbymoorside this coming Saturday in the last game of the season.
The Moorsiders were bowled out for 82 at Snainton as Johnathan Maw claimed 3-20. Matt Thompson (25) top-scored. The hosts, though, were then skittled for just 40 by Thomas Jefferson, who finished with fabulous figures of 6-14, and Howard Mudd, who bagged 3-7. The result leaves Snainton rooted to the foot of the table.
At Sherburn 2nds, the hosts fell to 0-3 before Andrew White (62) and Mark Cousins (92 not out) rescued them with a partnership of 130. Their innings ended on 185-7, with Adam Lee claiming 4-27.
In reply, Wold Newton 2nds were on 83-6 when the rain came, Andrew White having claimed 4-27. They only had nine players so Sherburn needed only two more wickets to win.
Division ‘C’ leaders Cayton 3rds lost at home to third-placed Muston 2nds - meaning the title battle will go down to their home match with second-placed Scalby 3rds this coming Saturday.
The match comprised a battle between all-rounders Shakil Igbal, who took 3-37 and hit 44 runs for Cayton, and Matthew Kings, who followed his 25 for Muston with 3-28.
Kings had the better support, though, with Max Truelove making 33 as they reached 135-6 and Barry Anderson taking 3-14 as Cayton were all out for 110.
Cayton 3rds are now 12 points ahead of Scalby 3rds, with Muston 2nds two points further back and also still in the hunt for honours. The latter go to lowly Thornton Dale in the last match of their season.
Scalby enjoyed a big win over Valley Bar Nomads - Stan Jackson hitting 57 and Neil Jackson 40 not out in their 184-5 before Jackson bagged 3-4 as the Nomads were skittled for 44.
Ganton 2nds edged Forge Valley 4ths by two wickets in the scrap to avoid the wooden spoon.
Joel Sarup (3-21) and Gareth Mills (3-10) helped to dismiss Valley for just 70. Tom Fletcher-Varey claimed 4-11 in reply but Ganton limped over the finishing line to confirm Valley will end bottom.
Another low-scoring game saw Thornton Dale 2nds dismissed for 63 to lose by 35 runs at Ravenscar 2nds.
