OLD Malton St Mary’s maintained their seven-point advantage at the top of the York Minster Engineering League premier division – but had to battle to do so.

Saints visited Copmanthorpe and edged the game 1-0 through Kyle Locklin’s second-half winner.

They picked up three bookings, though, for Scott Preston, Callum Scott and substitute Robert Baker.

Title favourites Riccall United stayed on their heels, though, beating a stubborn Easingwold Town 4-2 to maintain their 100 per cent record.

Third-placed Huntington Rovers and defending champions Dunnington also won to stay in the hunt, the top four now pulling away from the rest.

Terrington Glory, at the top of the chasing pack, lost ground as they drew 1-1 at Wigginton Grasshoppers – needing a late leveller to get the point.

Wigginton had the better of the early exchanges and went close on several occasions before Jamie Willstrop drove them into the lead on 40 minutes.

Glory came back strongly in the second half, though, and only a great one-on-one save from Michael Clancy preserved Grasshoppers’ lead.

A fair result was ensured when Adam Fisher rose to head Terrington’s equaliser in the dying seconds of the game.

Stamford Bridge climbed the division three ladder after a 5-0 win at Huby United.

Kallum Horne hit a hat-trick and Oliver Lee a double for the victors.

Old Malton St Mary’s second string fell 2-1 to in-form Easingwold Town reserves in the reserve ‘A’ division.

Brandon Carrick and Jordan Green grabbed the victors’ goals with Dean Nuttall replying for the home side.

Malton & Norton reserves suffered a 6-1 beating at the hands of runaway reserve ‘B’ leaders Tadcaster Magnets second team.

Magnets raced into a 5-0 half-time lead but the second half was much more even with the sides notching a goal each. Callum Holmes was the Malton & Norton scorer.

Stamford Bridge lost out 5-3 at home to Pocklington. The Stamford scorers were Greg Ashcroft (2) and Alex Smith.
