This January saw one of our members reach an incredible milestone.
Derrick Brewer has been treading the boards with Pickering Musical Society for 50 years!
Derrick first joined the society back when we performed in the Memorial Hall, featuring in his first pantomime, Sinbad the Sailor, in 1973.
Over the years, Derrick has performed in nearly every pantomime and musical produced by the society and when the former Methodist chapel was purchased in Hungate, he took on the role of theatre manager.
Derrick’s dedication to musical theatre, Pickering Musical Society and the Kirk Theatre is incredible. His passion and drive helped not only convert the building we now all love and enjoy, but also his support ensured its endurance to the present day.
Audiences on the last night of our recent pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk, were able to express their gratitude when he was unexpectedly called onto the stage to mark this fantastic achievement.
Derrick has just celebrated his 89th birthday – what an achievement, not only celebrating 50 years with the society, but still on stage and performing at the age of 89.
From everyone at Pickering Musical Society we wish to say a huge thank you and well done, and we look forward to seeing you on stage in our springtime musical, My Fair Lady.
Luke Arnold, Pickering
