I write to express sympathy for the case of Ms Vanessa Cecil, (Gazette, December 11).
While I have not been evicted from my home and do not have any animals to care for, as a single person living in private rented accommodation and currently unemployed, once my rent and bills have been paid I have very little to live on.
I share Ms Cecil’s frustration as, like her, I know many people consider me posh, judging by the way I speak. I suspect this is one of the reasons I am struggling to find regular or even casual work.
I join Ms Cecil in emphasising that these things can happen to anyone, regardless of their background.
I would be interested to know what Ryedale District Council is doing to help this lady.
I am not yet 35 and so my rent is not covered by my housing benefit. Moving would be difficult for me because I do not have a car, but I do have a lot of furniture, which I own.
The only help I have had from the council is advice to register with North Yorkshire Homechoice.
This I have done but nothing has come of it yet.
Peter Donnelly, Malton
