Ravensworth School (1915 to 1923) was established in Scarborough in the second half of the 19th century as a private girls’ school.
After the bombardment of the town in December 1914 the decision seems to have been taken to relocate it to a safer environment.
Appleton le Moors, where the vicar’s wife was an Old Girl, was chosen and the school was re-established at The Hall. It remained in Appleton until at least Easter 1923.
The History Group possesses a number of old school magazines, the first of which is number 13, from July 1919.
As we intend to produce a small book called Appleton During World War One, we would be grateful if any readers have earlier copies of the magazine or material from relatives who may have attended the school during its stay at Appleton.
Jim Hall, Appleton le Moors
