Kirkbymoorside’S oldest resident was invited to judge an exhibition of portraits of the Queen provided by children from the town’s primary school.
Rose Magson, who is 98, was accompanied by her daughter Kathleen, granddaughter Bridget, and 10-year-old great granddaughter Grace, to view the 200 entries in the Memorial Hall.
Mrs Magson awarded first prize to Faith Pearson, second to Mhairi Maxwell and third to Polly Richardson.
She said: “It has been wonderful to come and see all the entries but judging them has been very difficult because they are all so good.”
Visitors were able to decorate a square to be used in a commemorative wall hanging, and look round an exhibition by the Kirkbymoorside History Group which looked back to the time of the Queen’s Coronation.
Refreshments were provided by Helen Gundry, who raised £80 which will be divided between the town’s playgroup/Kid’s Club and the Cycle Track Fund.
