A CHALLENGE has gone out to all strong men and women from Malton and Norton to take part in a knockout tug-of-war competition as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations next month.
The We Love Malton events committee which is organising a family fun day at Malton Rugby Club on Monday, June 4, is on the look out for more eight-men teams to enter and pit their strength against the opposition.
First in the queue to join the battle are Malton firefighters, who will be battling it out against teams from local pubs, sports teams and businesses.
Organiser Sophie Legard said: “It’s a bit competitive but basically just a good laugh so it appeals to everyone.
“So we hope more teams will come forward to enter – the more the better.
And we have no intention of being sexist and limiting entries to strong men – women’s teams or mixed teams will be very welcome to join in”.
To register your entry, phone Di Keal on 01653-694546. Entry costs £10 per team and the overall winning team wins the amount raised by the entries.
There is also a children’s cookery competition with a prize up for grabs for the best fairy cakes.
The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Family Fun Event will take place at Malton Rugby Club, from 2pm to 5pm. There will be childrens games and races, face-painting and giant board games, magicians and story-tellers.
