A Malton teenager has secured a skydive jump with the world famous Red Devils in order to raise funds for Louby’s Lifeline.
Simon Robinson, son of the Rev Ian Robinson who conducted Louby’s funeral at Old Malton in March, will jump on June 19 at Langar Airfield in Nottingham.
The Red Devils are the official parachute display team for both the Parachute Regiment – ‘The Paras’ – and the British Army.
Simon got the chance to skydive with the ace dare-devil team after his dad repelled all bidders for the opportunity at a charity auction in aid of St Mary’s Priory in Old Malton.
The 17-year-old said: “Not only was this a great birthday present for me but it raised funds for the church and now I have the opportunity to raise money in memory of Louby.
“I didn’t know Louby, but through reading about her and hearing many others talk about her she was clearly a very inspirational young lady and her story has touched many in the communities of Malton and Norton.”
Simon, who works at The New Malton dining pub in Malton Market Place, at the weekend while studying for his A-levels, said that one of the things that surprised him when he read Louby’s story was just how little money is given for brain tumour research.
Less than one per cent of all the funds raised for research into cancer is devoted to brain tumour research, yet brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and more people under the age of 40 die from brain tumours than from any other form of cancer.
Simon said: “I’m really hoping that the people and businesses of Malton and Norton will dig deep to sponsor my skydive and to support Louby’s Lifeline in giving funds for brain tumour research.”
