NORTON skateboarder Ryan Swain completed a record-breaking challenge at the weekend to raise funds for Louby’s Lifeline.
Ryan skated from Malton to Scarborough and back – a distance of 54.4 miles in just five hours and 14 minutes.
The 22-year-old said the whole day was surreal and overwhelming.
He said: “I still haven’t quite got back to reality yet.
“The community spirit and support has being astounding, and Ryedale and beyond should be tremendously proud.”
Ryan said that throughout the challenge he had his mind set on Louby’s Lifeline.
The charity was set up by Laura Robertson-Tierney, 18, known as Louby, who passed away at her home in Malton on February 29, following a 10-month battle with two aggressive brain tumours.
Ryan said: “Laura was with me every step of the way.
“It was the hardest thing I had ever faced, but with Laura on your side anything is possible, as she was a true gladiator herself and a inspiration to us all.
“Failure was never a option, I just want to prevent anyone else having to suffer. Nobody deserves to suffer in life.”
Ryan has already raised more than £2,000 with sponsor money and donations still coming in.
Ryan will also be entertaining customers at Grade One hair and beauty salon in Railway Street, Malton, on Friday, 9am-5pm, during an open day in aid of Louby’s Lifeline.
