Kirkbymoorside Town Council is planning a Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebration to suit all ages and interests.
The event, on Sunday, June 3, will include Kirkbymoorside Brass Band, which will play in the town centre and lead a parade around the town.
Town mayor Chris Dowie said they would be holding a fancy dress competition with a royal or jubilee theme for children of all ages, and entrants will be able to follow the brass band in the parade.
They have also invited shops to decorate their windows as part of the celebrations.
There’s also a children’s competition for the best portrait of the Queen and any materials can be used, such as paint, pastels, paper or fabric collage, with all the entries to be put on display in the Memorial Hall.
The hall is also going to be the venue for an arts and crafts fair with local artists and craftspeople invited to have stalls.
Kirkbymoorside History Group is putting together a fascinating display in the Memorial Hall on June 3 linked to the Jubilee and they will also be launching their new book, Kirkbymoorside Proudly Presents...
“The Sportsfield Association has kindly offered its field as a venue and we plan to have an afternoon of fun races for children and we welcome more sporting ideas,”
said Chris.
“The town council will provide cash prizes for the children’s competitions and a certificate for the winning decorated shop window.”
Meanwhile, The Royal British Legion club will be holding a party and fun day on June 3, featuring local band Starbox, and a Jubilee lunch is planned for Sunday, June 10, at the bowling club, organised by All Saints’ Church.
And KMS Hair by Design is running a competition asking people to list the contents they believe the Queen carries in her handbag, along with one item they think she would never carry.
Owner Sue Carter said she had done her research and come up with a list which had been placed in an envelope until the competition closed.
“I thought it would be a bit of fun,” she added.
