AN event “fit for a Queen” is being planned to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee in Malton and Norton.
Fun for all the family will be on offer at a free event at the rugby club, 2pm-5.30pm on Monday, June 4, with everything from magicians to storytellers, face painting to fancy dress, plus live music and vintage tea and cakes.
Di Keal, part of the organising team, said: “We want the day to be a real family fun celebration in honour of this momentous day in the nation’s history.
“We hope that local people will really get into the spirit of the day, enter the competitions and enjoy some fun with their families.
“There will be children’s fancy dress – so bring along your little princes and princesses – and a chance for the children to be crowned ‘junior royal baker’ for the day when they enter their home-baked fairy cakes in our children’s cookery competition.
“For adults there will also be a regal cake competition, a Pimms tent and local teams are being invited to test their strength in a tug of war.”
Local charities are also invited to take part in the event which is also being supported by Hope Central, who will be running children’s games and activities during the day.
We Love Malton has received support for the event from Norton Town Council, but a bid for funding from Malton Town Council has been declined, so the group is looking for further sponsorship to make sure the day goes with a swing.
“We have made the decision to make this a community event and so entry will be free on the day and, although we are receiving a lot of support ‘in kind’ from local organisations and traders, we do need to find more funding to pay for items such as marquees, entertainers and attendance from St John Ambulance,” Di added.
“So if there are businesses who would like to support the event, please do get in touch – we want to make this a super day for local families to enjoy and hope that there are people out there who want to help make it happen.”
If you would like to sponsor the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee event, phone Di on 01653 694546.
An entry form and further details of the regal cake competition will appear in next week’s Gazette & Herald newspaper.
