STAFF and customers at Goodys salons in Norton and Malton have raised £250 for Louby’s Lifeline.

The salons, along with The Academy Hair and Beauty, sold wristbands and t-shirts in aid of the appeal.

Lindsay Burr, Academy director, said they had been touched by Louby’s courage.

She said: “We were happy to do something to help the appeal and raise funds for such a worthwhile cause.”

Laura, known as Louby, passed away in her mother’s arms at their home in Malton on February 29, following a 10-month battle with two aggressive brain tumours.

Despite undergoing months of intensive treatment, Laura, 18, set up the appeal to help fund research and support others whose lives have been devastated by similar circumstances.

Meanwhile, Norton skateboarder Ryan Swain is preparing to take to the streets to raise funds for the appeal.

He is aiming to skate 50 miles from Malton to Scarborough and back, in just 12 hours.

Ryan said: “At the moment I am training hard by doing lots of skateboarding wearing backpacks and lots of cardio-work. I am aiming to raise as much sponsorship as I can for the appeal in memory of Lou.”

Ryan will set off from the King’s Head pub in Market Place, Malton, at 8.45am on Saturday, May 5.

He said: “I am doing it to raise plenty of money and awareness for what is an incredible charity. It’s a profound honour to be doing this for Lou – to me, the way she dealt with her illness was hugely inspiring.”

To sponsor Ryan and support Louby’s Lifeline, visit www.btrs.org.uk/loubyslifeline.sht or fill in a sponsor form which is available in various shops in Norton and Malton.

The Gate in Malton is holding an Easter weekend fundraising event in aid of the appeal.

On Saturday, Starbox Band will be playing at the pub from 9pm and raffle tickets will also be available.

A race day will be held on Sunday, from 3pm, with a free buffet and the raffle will be drawn at 4.30pm.

Rachel Shaw, one of the organisers, said Starbox Band would be singing some of Louby’s favourite songs in memory of the teenager.

A fundraising evening at the Kings Head in Malton on February 24 with Starbox Band raised £318 for Louby’s Lifeline.
