A HALLOWEEN party for Louby’s Lifeline raised £266 for the appeal.
The event, held at the Ham and Cheese pub, Scagglethorpe, on Saturday, was attended by Laura Robertson-Tierney who set up Louby’s Lifeline to help fund brain tumour research.
Laura, who lives in Malton, has undergone months of gruelling treatment after being diagnosed with two aggressive brain tumours.
The 17-year-old, known as Louby, collapsed in April and has since undergone two major operations as well as weeks of extensive radiotherapy.
Her mum, Emma, said that Laura’s determination made her fight every day to continue with her rehabilitation.
“It will be a long road to recovery and the journey is only just beginning,”
she added.
“Louby wanted to do something positive and decided to work with her surgeon’s charity, Brian Tumour Research and Support across Yorkshire.”
Laura, who was studying English literature, accounting and psychology at Norton College sixth form, wanted to set up the appeal after telling her mum: “I never want anyone else to go through what I have gone through.” Emma said there were 120 different types of brain tumour and brain tumour cancer killed more people under 40 than any other cancer.
“We realise that brain tumours happen to anyone, at any age and literally stop you in your tracks,” Emma said.
“Research is poorly funded with less than one per cent of funds raised for research into cancer being devoted to brain cancer.”
Emma said they were grateful for everyone’s support at the Halloween party.
“A big thank you to everyone. It was lovely to see so many family and friends enjoying the evening and supporting Louby’s Lifeline,” she added.
Rachel Shaw, who organised the event, said it was great that Laura had been able to come along.
“It was a really successful night.
We had lots of children there early in the evening and then the older ones came along later.
“The public were also very supportive donating prizes for the raffle and I would like to thank everyone for coming along and making it such a great night.”
Local businesses who donated raffle prizes included Millers greengrocery and florist, Abigail’s nail technicians, Pizza Master, Escape hair design, Tabu hair design, Number One health and beauty, Ethel Austin, Malton News, Victoria Faith, The Card Shop, Yates, Hopper, Massers camera shop, The Art Shop, Fishy Feet, VIP’s hairdressers, The Yard, The Pattiserie, Hair Box, The Ham and Cheese, Malton market framers, Restyle, BATA, Corner Shop, Norton, One Stop, Norton, Payleys and Dales.
