A TALENT show evening at Norton College last week raising money for Louby’s Lifeline had a special guest judge – hip hop rapper Chipmunk.
The singer was invited to the school by students Dominic Weatherill and Alan Lewis as part of a television series Live and Lost.
Each programme challenges Chipmunk to make his way to a gig hundreds of miles away with the help of his fans.
Dominic, 14, said his friend Alan had contacted the programme but had gone on holiday so he had taken up the challenge.
“We are both dancers so we asked Chipmunk to do some ballet in return for a bed for the night,” he said.
“He came to Norton College the day we were doing Norton’s Got Talent so instead of doing the ballet he agreed to be a guest judge for the evening.”
Chipmunk joined staff Jess Campbell, David Rees and Gemma Williams on the panel for the charity event which raised £1,100 for Louby’s Lifeline and Save the Children.
Ms Campbell said: “When Chipmunk first came on the stage everyone thought he was a look-alike. There was a massive cheer when they students realised he was the real Chipmunk.
“He gave some really good feedback to the students and told them to follow their dreams.”
Following the show, Chipmunk stayed the night at Dominic’s home in Malton.
Dominic, who is appearing as the prince in Malton and Norton Musical Theatre’s panto Beauty and the Beast, said Chipmunk had been impressed with his dancing.
“He was a really cool guy but it was unreal having someone famous sleeping at my house,” he added.
“I had to keep it secret that he was coming and the next day at school everyone was asking me so many questions – it was crazy.”
