“SHE was a dream come true for us, and a gift which we were privileged to enjoy for 19 years,” said Margaret Wilson. “I never thought I would be asked on Jan's 20th birthday, "I have been all round the crematorium, Margaret, and I can’t see any place to put flowers for Jan."
All of Jan Wilson’s three winning rides were on Imperial Sword, owned by her mother and trained by her employer, trainer David Barron.
“We owe that doughty old warrior a lot for the happiness he brought Jan,” said Mrs Wilson. “Jan said she had the best job in the world. That could only be possible with all she worked with and made friends with throughout her short but full time in racing.
“She loved that horse to bits, in fact she loved them all. Out of 10 rides on him - three wins and a second.
“Jan proves if you give a girl the same chance they’re every bit as good as the lads.
“We are so very proud of Jan and all her achievements all through her short but full life, and thank all those who helped her get their and made her into the girl we miss so much. Drew and I miss her more than words could say.”
Speaking about Peter Brown, she said: “Any punishment won’t be enough for the loss and suffering of Jamie, Jan and all their family and friends. At least he can’t take away our memories.
“Jan and Jamie have been robbed of a great future and lifestyle in a sport they loved so much.”
She quoted a tribute to her daughter: "You've no idea the hole you left in so many hearts, we always knew you were gonna be a heartbreaker, but we thought it would be one jockey, or maybe two, but not all of them. Someone said to me the other day that they can imagine the two of you racing up there on all the legendary horses that have passed away, I hope you are."
“We hope so too,” said Mrs Wilson. “My heart goes out to Jamie's family and I know how highly Jan spoke of Jamie as a Jockey and I have spent time these weeks with Jamie's brother Francis so I know she is in safe hands now.”
