Scarborough and District Junior Cup Round Two
THORNTON-LE-DALE from the Beckett second division beat Scarborough and District third division side Burniston 5-3 at home in a game which they were always in control of. Dale took an early lead through Jonathan Scoble midway in the first half, which Adam Kendrew then doubled. Paul Brady pulled a goal back for the visitors but just before half-time, Mark Aconley restored Dale's two-goal advantage.
In the second half, Dale increased their lead when Tony Wootton crossed for Richard Swiers to head home. Fifteen minutes from time, Burniston pulled one back when Brady scored his second from the spot. Five minutes later, John McGough scored a third for Burniston to set up a close last few minutes. But Richard Swiers eased Dale's fears as he grabbed his second. Man of the match winners were Bill Balderson for Dale Andy Rowley for Burniston. Despite their disappointment, Burniston praised the hospitality shown to them by their opponents.
Old Malton thirds from the Beckett League had a fine 5-0 win at home to Hunmanby United reserves from the Scarborough League third division. Goals came from Stuart Clarkson, Steve Baxter, Paul Milner (penalty), James Dawson and sub Sam Thackeray. Gerry Baxter was the Old Malton man of the match.
The Pickering derby saw first division Black Swan swamp Royal Oak 7-0. Richard Robinson opened the scoring early on. Nick Wilkinson made it 2-0 after 24 minutes, following fine play by Matty Cass. Matthew Wilkinson almost pulled a goal back just before half-time but his effort struck the post.
Black Swan continued to dominate in the second period with further goals from Steve Sailes, Nick Wilkinson, man of the match Paul Mann (2) and Simon Dale. Darren Pickering for Oak and Matthew Cass for Swan were sent off. Mark Strangeway was Oak's man of the match.
Aislaby United from the Beckett first division thrashed FC Aberdeen reserves from the Scarborough third division, 6-1. They were four up at the break, thanks to Mark Harland - a fine header, following a Danny Lamb cross - Simon King, Colin Frank and player/manager Mike Smith. In the second half, man of the match Nick Beaumont, with an unstoppable 25 yard shot, and Brendan Rudland added further goals.
Duncombe Park lost 3-1 at home to FC Rosette. Chris Machen scored a brace for Rosette and former Edgehill player Gary Maw added a third, before Park scored a consolation through Colin Gascoigne. Andrew Souter was the Duncombe Park man of the match.
Rillington did well to beat Tennyson 5-2. The Tennyson goals were scored by Duncan McDermott and Paul Flack. McCains beat West Pier reserves 6-2 after extra time, Morton and Dickinson scoring for West Pier. Cup favourites Edgehill reserves lived up to their billing, beating Scalby reserves 9-0 at Scalby. Goals came from Gareth Sygroves (3), Mark Robertson (2), Steven Azis(2) and Gary Hepples (2).
Filey Town reserves beat New Ganton 9-1. The Filey goals were scored by John Hurrell (3), Darren Playforth (2), Jamie Lee (2), Jon Crabtree and Charlie Skinner. Joe Hepples scored for New Ganton. Ayton beat Wards reserves 4-2 on penalties after the game ended 3-3 after extra time. The Ayton marksmen were Andy Habberley (2) and Mick Glew with a penalty. The Wards goals were scored by Ben Moorcroft, Andy Adamson and Andy Southwick.
The all-Beckett League games between holders Rosedale and Sinnington, and Ryedale SC reserves and Kirkdale Utd will be played this week after they were postponed. The games between Kirkbymoorside reserves and FC Aberdeen, and Lealholm against Slingsby also take place this week.
