RYEDALE farmer Derek Watson has been re-elected for a second year as National Farmers' Union chairman for the county.
Mr Watson, who farms 250 acres at West Knapton, pledged to continue battling for farmers and the British food industry.
He said: "I will continue to demand better food labelling, and continue to promote the 'little red tractor' label."
Mr Watson said the devastating effects of foot and mouth disease meant the farming industry and rural economy had suffered one of the worst years in living memory.
He said the work done by the NFU had played a crucial role in supporting farmers in such difficult times.
"What I have learnt in the last year," he said, "is that the NFU is the most effective and influential trade organisation, and I have been impressed with the way it has successfully fought on behalf of farmers throughout the foot and mouth crisis."
