The reserves and third team made it a hat-trick of wins for Old Malton last week, as both sides progressed to the quarter-finals of the Scarborough and District FA Junior Cup.
Old Malton reserves, who won the cup two seasons ago, scraped through against hard-working Sinnington, winning 3-2 on penalties after extra-time. The Sinners took the lead through Mark Smith. In the second half, Old Malton's pressure finally told when Towse sent the keeper the wrong way from a penalty, after he had been fouled in the area.
The Sinners' keeper pulled off several good saves, the best being from Smith, who let fly from 30 yards. Sinnington came back into it to almost steal the winner with ten minutes left, when Bradshaw cleared off the line following a good corner.
In extra-time, Boyes, Bradshaw and Lander were guilty of missing good chances for Old Malton. In the shoot-out, Jacques pulled off a tremendous save from the second Sinnington penalty to put Old Malton in the driving seat. Sinnington then hit the bar and post with their next two. It was left to Marwood to cap a fine display by scoring the winnng penalty. Ward won the man of the match for Old Malton and Ian Smith took the honours for Sinnington.
Old Malton thirds had a terrific 7-2 win at Union Rovers. in the all-Beckett League clash. Steve Baxter got a hat-trick, man of the match 15-year-old Jamie Dawson scored two and Stuart Clarkson and Alf Godson notched one apiece. Richard Abbey and Nicky Jackson scored for Rovers.
