WANT to make a splash in the new year?
Pickering Sub Aqua club has vacancies starting in January for new members wishing to learn Scuba diving.
The club currently has about 40 members and throughout the diving season (subject to weather) organises dive trips to some of the many wrecks along the east coast. It has its own dive boat and arranges trips farther afield, to such sites as the Farne Islands, where divers experience with delight the playful antics of seals, diving alongside them.
Pool sessions are on Friday evenings at Pickering swimming pool (7-8pm). Children are welcome to come along, if accompanied by an adult, for a swim.
If you'd like to try Scuba diving, you can attend one of the Friday evening sessions and a one-hour 'try-dive' (cost £5). Contact training officer John Garbutt on (01751) 474335 (work) or (01751) 475192 (home).
Those who register with the club receive weekly training at the pool followed by theory instruction. All equipment is lent to new starters until they reach BSAC club diver status. Weekly pool sessions cost £2.50, inclusive of use of equipment and instruction.
