A PILOT scheme to help teenage mums is to be set up in Ryedale. The project is part of a national initiative and North Yorkshire is one of the first local authorities to participate in the programme.
Project worker Karen Johnson said Young Mums To Be aimed to provide a support network for the girls to help them cope with the pregnancy and their baby's arrival.
Karen said the scheme aimed to provide a relaxed and informal environment where teenagers would feel at home.
The project includes a range of information and computer technology workshops where the mums-to-be can learn basic workplace skills.
The course takes place at the community education centre at Lady Lumley's School, Pickering, with IT sessions at The Ropery Centre in the town.
