IT is all systems go for the Kirkbymoorside 10k road race which takes place on Sunday, April 28. The race was postponed last year because of the foot and mouth disease outbreak.
It will be the second time that the Kirkbymoorside 10k has been run. The fast and undulating course starts in Kirkbymoorside and winds through the villages of Gillamoor and Fadmoor, before returning to finish in the town centre.
The organisers are the Friends of Kirkbymoorside CP School and Gillamoor CE School PTA, while the race is sponsored by the Gazette & Herald, in association with The King's Head Hotel, Kirkbymoorside.
The race was first run in 2000 when 250 runners took part. They were watched by hundreds of spectators, which made for a tremendous atmosphere on the day. And, of course, plenty of money was raised for Kirkbymoorside CP School and Gillamoor CE School.
To enter the race, which begins at 2pm on April 28, you must be aged 15 or over, and the cost is £5.75, or £4.75 for members of UK Athletics. There will be prizes for all class winners and places, while also up for grabs will be local runner awards for the parishes of Kirkbymoorside, Gillamoor and Fadmoor.
A prize of £50 is on offer if the course records for men and women are broken. The time for the men to beat is 34 minutes and 12 seconds, while for the women it is 37 minutes and 40 seconds. A commemorative mug will be presented to all finishers.
If you want to take part in the race, fill in the coupon and send it to the race secretary, 34 West End, Kirkbymoorside, N Yorks, YO62 6AF, together with the entrance fee. The closing date for entries is April 22 and late entries must pay an extra £1. There is a limit of 400 runners for the race.
