Yorkshire Cup Final
Malton and Norton under-12s 21
West Park Bramhope 12
Malton and Norton under-12s won the Yorkshire Cup at Selby last Sunday after a closely-contested final against a strong West Park Bramhope team.
In difficult conditions, Malton attacked from the outset as Chris Peace went over in the corner. Despite the strong wind, he also made the conversion.
More attacking play saw turnover ball taken by Mark Perkins, whose strong run resulted in Peace scoring his second try.
West Park then hit back with two tries and one conversion of their own.
As Park pressed to take the lead, Malton's defence held strong but they did not help their cause by giving away several penalties.
Park failed to convert these opportunities into points and with just minutes left, Malton made them pay. Quick ball down the line from a penalty saw Mark Perkins go over in the corner for the decisive try, which Peace converted again.
Malton's robust defence held firm in the closing stages to clinch the cup.
All credit to the squad, who won thanks to their determination, tenacity and outstanding skill.
The hard work of the coaches and the wonderful support from parents also contributed to this great triumph.
