League Cup
KIRKBYMOORSIDE reached the quarter-finals last Saturday after a superb 2-1 win at current league champions Filey Town.
After an even opening 20 minutes, the Moorsiders took the lead. Paul Hodgson chested the ball down and drilled his shot home for his first senior goal for the club.
Filey equalised before half-time as Paul Allick broke through the visitors' defence to score. It could be argued that Kirkby keeper John Dobson had the ball in his hands but the goal stood.
Dobson made a couple of outstanding saves in the last 15 minutes before Kirkby regained the lead four minutes from time. Anthony Barnett unleashed a 25-yard shot to put his side into the quarter-final at Wards next month.
This was a most impressive display by the Moorsiders at a place where it is never easy to get a result.
Edward Strickland was the man of the match, with impressive displays by Anthony Barnett, Andrew Gamble and Paul Hodgson in midfield.
