Norton United 0
Haxby and Wigginton 1
Norton had the chances to win this match but could not put the ball in the net.
It has been the story of United's season, according to manager Trevor Heselwood. The visitors took the lead after 35 minutes.
Despite having several opportunities to equalise, the home side could not get the goals they desperately needed to give themselves a chance of first division survival. They came closest through Chris Seager, who hit the bar in the second half. He and keeper Kevin Simpson stood out for Norton.
Manager Heselwood said: "We've a young side, with four or five players who are only 17. We can't put the ball in the net this season but that will come with time."
Stamford Bridge 3
Norton reserves 1
Norton put in one of their best performances of the season but came away pointless.
Forwards Joe Cole and Stu Ellis troubled the home defence but chances were not converted. Gary Hall's precision crosses were headed against the post and the back of other players' heads.
Bridge opened the scoring when a dubious hand ball resulted in a penalty. They added a second before half-time but Norton fought back with a storming solo run from man of the match Phil Sothers. With Steve Jacques working his socks off in midfield, Norton came close to levelling but Bridge added a third at the end.
