SKIPTON auction market is making dramatic changes thanks to funding from a variety of sources.
The auction mart will retain its traditional role, but the addition of new facilities will make it a support hub for the rural community as well. The new facilities will include:
* A refurbished meat-processing plant selling branded and added-value products;
* The Craven Rural Business and Skills Centre, enabling the rural community to obtain one-to-one advice on available grants, opportunities to diversify, alongside dedicated training facilities;
* A new home for Craven College's agricultural courses;
* Alterations to the auction ring, enabling greater flexibility of use, from sales of four-wheel drive vehicles to theatre performances;
* An electronic portal for agricultural land sales in addition to its existing animal sales website;
* Meeting and training facilities.
Funds have come from DEFRA, regional development agency Yorkshire Forward, Craven College and North Yorkshire County Council.
