BRAWBY are division two champions following this win. George Rounthwaite showed his class for Settrington with a superb 36. Mick Fairweather bowled for the first time this season and responded magnificently with 4 for 20. Support came from Ben Allen (3 for 23). Steve Beal took the eye with the ball for Settrington with a 2 for 16 return but Ady Pierson (41) and Bobby Brewer (29) saw Brawby to a comfortable win.
Whitwell 111 for 2 beat
Ampleforth 61 all out by 50 runs
Tight bowling restricted Whitwell to just 26 in the first seven overs. C Stephenson (2 for 1 in 4 overs) bowled exceptionally. Then Whitwell's Chris Creber, with 67 not out, cut loose and gained good support from Mally Freer (26). Tight bowling and fielding pegged Ampleforth back. There were no fewer than six catches. Nick Wittevene took 3 for 6 in a superb spell, and back-up came from James Nellis and Jim Fisher, who both recorded 2 for 17.
Hovingham 61 for 0 beat
Nawton 59 all out by 10 wkts
Nick Smith (18) got Nawton off to a good start before tight bowling restricted the visitors. S Mosey (2 for 6) and G Mosey (2 for 19) bowled well, backed up by Nigel Adams (3 for 1). Good batting displays by M Redhead (34) and R Brown (25) saw Hovingham to an easy win.
Division One
Malton 187 for 3 beat
Lockton 183 for 7 by 4 runs
Malton and Lockton went run crazy, scoring 370 runs during the evening. Principal scorers for Malton were Ben Nicholson (53) and Gary Hall (37). There was a super 15-ball innings of 33 not out by Andy Raines. Lockton's reply was led by Chris Nichols, who hit a century in just 65 balls, being out in the final over. Lockton needed six to win from the final ball, which proved just too much.
Kirkbymoorside 124 for 8 beat
Harome 109 for 8 by 15 runs
Kirkby's improved form continued, as captain Neil Ward led from the front. He opened the batting and scored 28. Ward figured in a match-winning second-wicket partnership of 72 with Martin Thompson (32). Dave Greenlay (4 for 17) and Steve Dodsworth (2 for 19) were Harome's best bowlers.
After danger man Greenlay was removed for just one, Kirkby had their tails up. Former Kirkby veteran Chas Pickard made 21 in the opening berth. The Moorsiders looked to be cruising until the dangerous pairing of Steve Dodsworth (29) and Will Metcalfe (23) put Harome back on track. However, the Moorsiders hit back to defend the score successfully. Veterans Howard Mudd (4 for 15) and Neil Ward (2 for 24), along with 15-year-old Phil Ward (1 for 22) took the eye.
Pickering 97 for 3 beat
Cropton 96 for 6 by 7 wkts
Champions Pickering cruised to a win over neighbours Cropton. R Aconley (25) and K Wilson (20) had to graft for their runs. The Pikes' fielding was excellent, with Mark Shepherd's run-out of Matt Lakin being the highlight. Shepherd took 3 for 23, Crosswell 1 for 19 and Curtis 1 for 18.
Shepherd, who had an exceptional night, batted well for his 41 not out. Jason Feaster finished with 2 for 22.
Division Three
Swinton and Broughton 92 for 5 beat Duncombe Park 86 all out by 5 wkts
H Karayadis (33) and M Harding (20) were the only batsmen to show for Park. Swinton's reply was a team effort with J Towse jnr (28 not out) scoring most of the runs. Tom Lund ended the match in fine style with a six, which went clean out of the ground.
Westow 154 for 7 beat Thornton-le-Dale 141 for 7 by 13 runs
This was an excellent match, which was a credit to both teams. Westow's S Fraser (62 not out) and R Hudson (39) hammered Dale's young bowlers before 14-year-old Colin Lockwood bowled Hudson. Col Pickering took 2 for 20 and Carl Pickering 1 for 3.
James Spencer was Dale's man of the match and showed much promise with his attacking innings of 75. Toby Dudley-Smith (31) supported well and took the score to 123 before Spencer was out in the 13th over. Needing a run a ball, Dale's hopes of victory faded when Dudley-Smith was run out.
