A NEW exhibit at a North Yorkshire museum is shedding light on the German experience in the bitter naval battles of the Second World War.
The signalling lamp which once belonged to the German Navy has been donated to Eden Camp, near Malton, and will form part of a display on U-Boats.
Museum director Steve Jacques said: "It has a leather strap, which means it would have been carried round the neck like a pair of binoculars.
"It also has a squeeze trigger so messages could be flashed out."
Mr Jacques said the donation had probably been prompted by recent publicity about a Scarborough paraffin rescue lamp which was donated by Scarborough Police.
