Scarborough and District League
IN the first division, Kirkbymoorside won their first game of the season on Saturday, with a fortunate 2-0 home win against West Pier, thanks to a brace of second-half goals by super-sub Andrew Ferguson. Andrew Gamble was the Moorsiders' man of the match.
Filey Town maintained their 100pc record, beating promoted FC Aberdeen 3-0 with goals from Gareth Sygroves, Shaun Welburn and Shaun Gascoigne. Match of the day saw last week's leaders Wards thrashed 6-2 at home by Edgehill, who replaced them at the top. Alex Coulson and a Martyn Ferrey penalty gave the visitors a two-goal first-half lead. Lee Croft fired a brace of goals to draw Wards level after 50 minutes but Edgehill's superior fitness and composure paid dividends. Martyn Ferrey added a second penalty and further goals came from Ainsley Scott, Paddy Mancrief and Dave Bell.
Fishburn Park played out a rare goalless draw at home to Cayton Corinthians, whilst Sleights had a great 4-1 win at Hunmanby United. John Hall (2), Paul Butler and Neil Hart scored for Sleights. Atkinson, with an own goal, scored for Hunmanby.
In the second division, Rillington lost 1-0 at home to McCains, for whom Lee Major scored a penalty. Wards reserves won 4-1 at Scalby, with goals by Ben Moorcroft (2), Matty Sheader and Nick Daniel. Danny Gregory scored a penalty for Scalby.
Whitby Albion Rangers beat Filey Town reserves 4-2, thanks to a hat-trick by Jon Simpson and one from Shackleton. Paul Crabtree and Nicholson scored for Filey. Snainton gained their first win of the season, beating Tennyson 2-0, thanks to goals by Karl Cooper and Richard Swiers.
Forge Hotel won 3-2 at Cayton in an ill-tempered affair. Jason Lauchlan (2) and Shaun Thomas gave Hotel a three-goal interval lead. Cayton hit back in the second half with goals from Keith Hunter and Dave Kitching.
In the third division, Burniston had a great 4-3 win at Filey Athletic, with Paul Brady hitting a hat-trick and Andy Rowley netting. New Ganton thrashed Westover 7-1 as Phil Barnett bagged five goals. Nigel Ings added a brace. Heslerton had a great 3-1 win at Sherburn with goals by Paul Bailey, Lee Stead and Steve Parker. Sherburn's goal was a Des Bean penalty.
In the League Cup, Ryedale SC won 4-0 at Seamer with goals from Marc Dobson (2), Nick Wilkinson and Jason Hodgson. Ayton beat Scalby reserves 5-0. Coole, Habberley, Glew, Ross and Horncastle all found the target.
