Kartiers reserves 2, Old Malton reserves 5

Old Malton travelled to Selby-based Kartiers full of confidence following last week's narrow defeat by defending champions Dringhouses.

Bolstered by new signings Willie and Todd, Old Malton looked to get their season under way with three points, against a team who have always proved difficult to beat at home. After an even first 20 minutes, the visitors gained the upper hand on what was a poor surface.

Holder had two good shouts for a penalty turned down after he had made strong runs into the box in a good five-minute spell. Old Malton weren't to be denied and deservedly took the lead on 28 minutes. Milner's hard work was rewarded when he pressurised his marker into making a mistake, which allowed him to finish well from 16 yards.

With their tails up the visitors increased their lead eight minutes later with the move of the match. Old Malton strung together a dozen passes before Willie whipped in a great cross for Milner to crash in of the keeper's left hand post. With Kartiers reeling, they went further behind two minutes later. Once again, a flowing move saw Willie and Preston interchange well before Hudson outpaced his marker to chip the keeper from just outside the area.

The visitors killed the game off on the stroke of half time. A good move down the left, involving Brown, Pettit and Taylor, saw Holder break with pace into the area before sliding the ball under the keeper to make it 4-0.

The second half saw Kartiers introduce all three subs in an attempt to salvage something from the game. They pulled a goal back ten minutes into the half, when a striker was given too much time and space to turn and shoot past Jacques.

Old Malton's four-goal advantage was restored when Milner completed his hat-trick with a delightful left-foot chip from just outside the area, before Kartiers pulled another goal back with 15 minutes left. Milner's hat-trick won him the man of the match award, with another excellent midfield display by Holder gaining him the runner-up spot.
