NEWLY-promoted Duncombe Park are the new league leaders after stunning Aislaby United with a 4-1 win at United to move above Black Swan, Pickering on goal difference.
The home side took a deserved lead after 20 minutes when Martin Carter from 12 yards but, within ten minutes, Park were level. A corner from former Aislaby player Jeremy Richardson found an unmarked Steve Garbutt, who converted from close range. Just before half-time, Craig Newton scored put Park ahead with a near-post header, following another Richardson corner.
Aislaby missed several chances in the second half, which proved costly as man of the match Steve Garbutt completed his hat-trick, heading home twice from Jeremy Richardson corners to give Park their 4-1 victory. Central defensive double Nigel Wright and Steve Coxon impressed for Park, whilst man of the match for Aislaby was Kian Brewster.
Kirkdale United went third with a 4-2 win at Rosedale in a game of two halves. Kirkdale, with wind advantage in the first half, stormed into a four-goal lead with goals by man of the match Christopher Simpson (2) - the second being a goal to remember - Patrick Robinson and David Greenlay. In the second half, Rosedale hit back with two goals from Richard Wilkinson, who picked up his side's man of the match award.
Black Swan, Pickering, drop to second on goal difference after a 3-2 home win against Amotherby and Swinton. Depleted Swan struggled against a youthful Amotherby side, who took a deserved 14th minute lead through Sam Thackrey after good work by Lee Dunning. Swan equalised with a fine goal by Mike Thomas after 29 minutes - his first goal for three years. They then took the lead after 43 minutes when Chris Weighell scored with a 25-yard shot.
Within a minute of the restart, Swan went 3-1 up through another long range effort from Paul Mann. Amotherby and Swinton came back through a second Sam Thackrey goal after 84 minutes with a well-struck free kick. Man of the match winners were Paul Mann (Swan), playing his first match of the season, and Alan Goforth (Amotherby and Swinton).
Kirkbymoorside reserves moved up into fourth position with a 3-0 win at Sinnington. The only goal of the first half was scored by former Sinners player Andrew Wilkinson with a header. At half-time the Sinners inquest centred on how so many tall defenders could be out-jumped by one of the smallest players on the pitch.
The Moorsiders stepped up their game in the second half with further goals from substitute Carl Biggins - his first for the club since his summer move from Slingsby - and Chris Hodgson. Stuart Wilkinson and Rob Atkinson shared the Sinners man of the match award, whilst Chris Hodgson won the Kirkby award.
Old Malton thirds and Union Rovers shared the points in a thrilling 1-1 draw. Rovers took a 55th minute lead through Jamie Wilkinson before George Cooper equalised after 70 minutes. Both sides had chances to win but in the end were happy with a point. Man of the match winners were Jamie Milner (Old Malton), and the Union Rovers award was shared between Chris Wilkinson and Stuart Young.
Second Division
Black Bull, Thirsk, gained their first win of the season when they won the 'Battle of Thirsk' against Bagby and Balk 8-6 in a game which could have gone either way. The Bull goals came from star player Tom Kendall (3) - his first hat-trick of the season - Darren Beattie (2), and one each for Mark Pearse, Will Goldburn and substitute Andrew Snowdon. For Bagby, man of the match Paul Fountain grabbed a hat-trick, Graham Merritt scored a brace, with Anthony Hewson also finding the target.
Leaders Ampleforth beat local rivals Coxwold 6-3. The Ampleforth goals were scored by Joe Casey (3) and one each for Ed Fawcett, Dave Wallinger, and Ross Brown. For Coxwold, Martin Gallon and Stuart Pearce found the net, with the other goal being an own goal. Man of the match winners Dave Wallinger (Ampleforth) and Stuart Pearce (Coxwold).
Heslerton reserves came from 2-0 down to beat Gillamoor at home 3-2. The visitors stormed in front with a brace of goals by Sam Robinson. But they sat back on their lead and Heslerton took advantage with goals by Curtis Drummond, an own goal, and Danny Cass, who got the winner five minutes from the end. Man of the match winners were Mark Featherstone (Heslerton) and Andrew Bayes (Gillamoor),
North Riding CFA Saturday Challenge Cup first round
Pickering Royal Oak did the Beckett League proud by winning 4-3 after extra time at York side LNER with goals scored by Damon Cox (2), Matt Pedder, and Mark Smith. Once again, Oak's fitness proved the key. Thornton-le-Dale lost 5-1 at Winney Banks (Acklam). Andrew Spittlehouse scored for the Dale after good work by Jeff Quilter. Mike Lealhman was man of the match closely followed by Quilter. Slingsby couldn't raise a team to travel to Teesside Link.
