AFTER being selected as Malton, Norton and District Lions Club's representative in the annual youth award scheme, Heather Pontin-Brown, of Norton, has been nominated to represent the north of England and Scotland.

Having won through to the district finals, Heather will attend the Lions clubs' national conference at Dudley, next February, when the national finals take place to select a young person to represent the British Isles.

As a result of her achievement, she has been awarded a bursary of £500 to spend on her chosen project, which is a youth drama group at St Peter's Church, Norton.

The Rev Bill Ankers, vicar of St Peter's Church, Norton, said of Heather: "She is one of several very gifted young people who are part of the active life of St Peter's. We are proud of her and very grateful that she shares her talents within the community and, through the church, with other children who can see her as a good role model."

Heather now attends Malton School sixth form, where she is studying geography and English at A-level. Her aim is to continue with her geography studies at university before becoming a secondary school teacher. Heather is also a Sunday school teacher at St Peter's Church and plays with Swinton Brass Band.
