I HAVE found a few interesting schemes available relating to environmental improvements.

Living Spaces: Provides grants to help people improve open spaces in their neighbourhood and create valuable places for the

whole community to enjoy. As long as your space is open to the public and near to where people live you could benefit from a

grant between £1,000 and £100,000. To find out if your project is eligible and for more information, visit www.living-spaces.org.uk.

St Andrew's Prize: Applications are now invited from individuals, multi-disciplinary teams or community groups for the 2004 St Andrew's Prize for the Environment. The aim is to find innovative solutions to environmental problems. The solutions should be practical, combining good science, economic reality and political acceptability. They

should also have the potential for wider application elsewhere. For more information, visit www.thestandrewsprize.com.

Environmental campaign group Planet Ark is calling on the public to back its anti-junk mail campaign. The group urges more people to recycle junk mail or register, free of charge, with the Mailing Preference Service by going to www.mpsonline.org.uk. or ringing (0845) 7034599. The service allows people to stop receiving unwanted mail.
