York FA Saturday Senior Cup third round - Malton Bacon Factory 4, T & L Selby 3 (aet). MALTON Bacon Factory made it through to the semi-final but it was far from easy. They scored an equaliser with injury-time beckoning to take the game into extra-time, when they finally pulled clear of the visitors.

Factory found themselves a goal down after 24 minutes. A back pass was intercepted and the Selby team took the lead. Far from realising this was a wake-up call, MBF continued to play sloppily and it took until the 37th minute for them to strike back.

Marcus Lee carried the ball forward from his right-back position and hit an accurate cross to Simon Collins, who powerfully headed home for the equaliser.

The second half saw T & L apply the pressure and they forced four corners in quick succession, only for Lee Rushworth to rescue MBF each time. Six minutes into the half, MBF's Nigel Allen had to be substituted due to a hamstring injury and Andrew Thornton took his place up front.

In the 70th minute, Factory fell behind again. Paul Flintoft fouled an attacker just outside the area and the resulting free-kick sailed into the net.

MBF stepped up a gear and started to string some good moves together. Jamie Barker was brought into play as Sam Lander was substituted.

With full-time approaching, but a massive nine minutes of injury time still to come, MBF finally equalised with a looping header from Thornton.

At last, MBF looked like title contenders, and started to cause the T & L keeper problems, but the scores remained locked together and the game went into extra-time.

Darryl Craggs, restored to his central midfield role, had a good shot saved early on. But the breakthrough came in the 11th minute of extra-time when central defender Jamie Hopwood scored MBF's third goal.

In the second period, Nicky Drew ran 50 yards with the ball and crossed for Collins to score and make the game safe. T & L scored with just four minutes remaining, but MBF held on.

Next week, MBF return to league action at Osbaldwick.
