AROUND 70 teams from across the country will descend on Dalby Forest this weekend for a two-day rally staged by the Siberian Husky Dog Club of Great Britain.

The huskies will compete in time trials over distances of up to four-and-a-half miles in an event which is the only round of the national championships to be staged in Yorkshire. Races will be divided into seven different classes, ranging from six to two-dog teams pulling the cart in which the driver sits. The driver controls the dogs only by voice command and not by reins.

Organiser Alastair Spowart said: "The dogs' natural desire to pull and run is genetic. They love it and get very excited. It can get very noisy."

Racing starts from Adderstone Fields at 9am on both Saturday and Sunday, with the last race on each day being around 1pm. Admission is free.
