Gordon Harrison Memorial Trophy second round, After their shock first-round win at Black Swan, Pickering, lowly Carlton United continued their cup adventure, beating local rivals Bagby and Balk 3-2 at home to reach the quarter-finals.

Carlton went three up through Steve Kilduff, Darren Beattie and Dave Parsons. Bagby and Balk scored two late goals through Paul Fountain and Geoff Fawcett but they couldn't get an equaliser to force extra-time. Man of the match winners were Mark Perrin (Carlton Utd) and Geoff Fawcett (Bagby and Balk).

After thrashing league leaders Heslerton reserves the previous week, Gillamoor had a well-deserved 2-1 win at Ampleforth, who only had nine men and desperately need new players. Contact secretary-manager Chris Lawson on (01439) 788820 if you are interested.

Gillamoor took a first-half lead when Steve Robertshaw scored minutes after Gary Stamper had gone close.

In the second half, Ampleforth's man of the match, Matthew Petch, scored a stunning equaliser, but Gillamoor progress thanks to an Andrew Bayes goal. Karl Richardson was Gillamoor's key man.

Rosedale won the all-first division clash at home to Thornton-le-Dale after extra-time, 4-2. Ken Weatherall gave Rosedale the lead after 26 minutes, but eight minutes later, Bobby Ehima equalised for Dale. The visitors took the lead after 51 minutes when Mike Lealman scored after good work by Lee Oliver and Will Dunnett. Rosedale bounced back with an equaliser scored by John Tindal after 70 minutes.

Rosedale snatched victory late in the second period of extra-time through a brace from Martin Myers. John Tindal was man of the match for Rosedale, while the Dale award was shared by Bobby Ehima, Jeff Quilter, John Darlison and Will Dunnett.

Union Rovers beat Old Malton 3rds 1-0 in a keenly-contested local derby. The only goal of the game was a penalty by Pete Tiffeny midway through the second half. Man of the match winners were Richard Abbey (Rovers) and Andy Raines (Old Malton).

Kirkdale United beat second division Slingsby 8-0, with man of the match Ian Prendergast netting four and Philip Charlton and Ashley Windress each bagging a brace. James Thompson made an outstanding save in the first half for Kirkdale when the score was just 1-0.

The two games between Kirkbymoorside reserves and Ryedale SC reserves, and Duncombe Park and Aislaby Utd were not played as Park and Ryedale were unable to raise sides.

First Division

Sinnington won 2-1 at Black Swan, Pickering, to return to the top of the division. They scored twice in two minutes towards the end of the first half - a Danny Russell own goal and one from Joe Turnbull, after Paul Clapham's effort was blocked by Dave Sturgess.

Swan came back strongly in the second half, Nick Woodhead scoring after 56 minutes from a Simon Dale cross. Russell missed a couple of good chances but the Sinners defence held out superbly for their three points. Man of the match winners were Dave Sturgess (Swan) and David Brown (Sinnington).

North Riding CFA Saturday Challenge Cup Third Round

Pickering Royal Oak were beaten 4-2 by Middlesbrough Post Office at their new pitch at Thornton-le-Dale. Post Office, who beat Scarborough League champions Edghill in the previous round, took a two-goal first-half lead through a penalty and an own goal. Oak levelled within ten minutes of the restart through Daman Cox and John Reed. Post Office regained the lead on the hour-mark and added a late goal, despite having a player sent off. Mark Strangeway was the Oak man of the match.
