Scarborough and District - FA Junior Cup. THREE Beckett League teams took pride of place this week, reaching the quarter-finals of the Scarborough and District FA Junior Cup last Saturday.

Kirkdale United, Kirkbymoorside reserves and Union Rovers all progressed, while Black Swan, Pickering, just lost out in extra-time.

Kirkdale United won 3-0 at Scarborough and District League side Cayton Corinthians reserves, who are currently third in the second division. Kirkdale were on top from start to finish and the score-line would have been greater but for a man of the match performance by Cayton keeper Garry Flynn.

Kirkdale's Ashley Windress was denied by two good saves from Flynn, who also saved from Philip Charlton and Andrew Collier. But they took the lead after 35 minutes when a long throw by Ian Prendergast found Langdale, who blasted home from eight yards. Kirkdale's second came from another long throw by Prendergast. Again, he found man of the match Langdale, who headed on for Graham Jemison to score from close range.

In the third minute of the second half, Kirkdale wrapped up the game when Ashley Windress followed up a Prendergast shot to get a deserved goal.

Kirkbymoorside reserves had a great 5-2 win at home to McCain's with goals from David Gardiner, Darren and Aaron Rivis, Bobby Brewer, and an own goal. Scott North scored a brace for McCain's.

Union Rovers, flying high in the Beckett League second division, won 3-2 at Scalby, currently fourth in the Scarborough League second division.

Rovers took a 2-0 lead through Pete Tiffeny and Nicky Jackson, but were pegged back by half-time. Jackson put through his own net and Dan Gregory scored from the spot to make it 2-2.

The second half match-winner for Rovers was Pete Tiffeny, who scored a great 18-yard left-foot volley ten minutes from time. Man of the match for Union Rovers was Darren Clifford, with Mick Norman impressive in goal.

The highest scoring game was at Black Swan, Pickering, who lost 6-5 to Newcastle Packet after extra-time.

Newcastle's Mark Cappleman capitalised on two defensive errors by Swan to give his side a two-goal interval advantage.

In the second half, Swan hit back with three goals in the opening 20 minutes. Nick Woodhead and Adrian Voicu levelled the scores before a long throw by Simon Dale was headed into the goal by a Newcastle player. Cappleman equalised with a twice-taken penalty after 77 minutes and his side took the lead six minutes later through Simon Dixon. But a last-minute penalty from Adrian Voicu saved Swan, Newcastle's keeper being sent off.

In the first period of extra-time, Dave Hopper put Newcastle ahead but Tom Marley equalised with a long range shot.

Newcastle had their second keeper sent off for using foul and abusive language but got the winner four minutes from time from Jamie Gallagher.

Forge Hotel beat Thornton-le-Dale 3-1, with goals by Anthony Connell, after 65 and 68 minutes, and Sean Lauchian. Will Dunnett pulled one back for Dale.

Competition favourites Lealhome beat Whitby Albion Rangers 8-7 on penalties after the game ended 1-1.

Snainton won 1-0 at Westover, Richard Webster scoring. Seamer Sports had a shock 4-2 win at FC Rosette.
