WHAT a double! Andew Tinkler proved the top man at Cheltenham on Saturday - just 48 hours after being the best man at his elder brother Nicky's Ryedale wedding.

Got One Too provided the Malton-born teenager with the biggest success of his brief, but burgeoning, career when winning a £20,000 handicap chase.

And, fittingly, Nicky and his new bride Lynne were there to witness the occasion, having chosen to include a weekend at Cheltenham races in their honeymoon.

Andrew, who is attached to Nicky Henderson's Lambourn stable, got the better of his mentor, Mick Fitzgerald - Henderson's number-one jockey - when guiding Got One Too to a stylish 20-1 success in the two-mile event to register his first success at the famous home of National Hunt racing.

In second place, but nearly 20 lengths adrift, was Tysou, also trained by Henderson, and the mount of Fitzgerald, who was left rueing the fact that he had chosen the 'wrong' one of the two stablemates.

Tinkler, 18, is fast developing into one of the country's top conditional riders in this, his first season in the professional ranks, after a successful spell as an amateur.

A son of Colin and Carol Tinkler, he is currently following in the footsteps of his father, who was a highly-successful jump-jockey before turning his hand to training just outside Malton.

Tinkler snr quit training in Ryedale about eight years ago to concentrate his attentions on buying, selling and rearing young stock.

He subsequently spent a short period training in Spain, but he has now retraced his steps by returning to Britain and taking out a licence once again.

Based at Compton in Berkshire - not a million miles from Andrew's adopted home - Colin has recently taken the job as private trainer to George Ward, a wealthy owner, who has a mixed string of Flat and National Hunt horses.

"It's early days, but I'm enjoying the job, and it's nice to be back," said Colin, who sent out a winner within a week or so of filling his new role.

With Colin's name back among the list of trainers - alongside that of his brother, Langton-based Nigel - and Andrew making giant strides up the young jockeys' ladder, the well-known racing name Tinkler looks set to continue to make the headlines.
