A STAMFORD Bridge woman celebrated her 100th birthday this month.

Mrs Ann Mellor was born Annie Millward Hickman, on December 19, 1903, in Newcastle-under-Lyme. She moved to Hull aged about four and attended Thorsby Street Primary and Newlands High School.

Ann worked in the accounts department of the Southcoates Lane Factory for the Metal Box Company, where she met her husband, Percy Mellor. They were married in 1940.

Ann enjoyed walking and, with friends, used to take the train to Glaisdale, and particularly enjoyed the Egton Bridge area.

She lived in Priory Road, Hull, from 1935 to 2002, about 65 years in the same house. After her husband died, she took holidays abroad with her sister Dorothy, and enjoyed time off with her brother Harry.

Ann played bowls and enjoyed cards, especially bridge and whist, which enabled her to make many friends.

Ann spent 18 months in a sheltered bungalow at King's Garth, Stamford Bridge, where she made many friends at the Wednesday Club, the Mothers' Union and at St John's Church. Here she lived close to her daughter Andrea, and often enjoyed the company of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

After a spell in hospital, she moved in early December to her present home at Gilberdyke.
