I was very surprised to read the comments of Couns Andy Suter and Gaynor de Barr regarding a ban on drinking alcohol in the streets of Kirkbymoorside. This has been an on-going problem for some years. Having had to escort grandchildren past foul-mouthed on-street drinkers, which includes, I might add, teenage members of the so-called fairer sex, I would welcome such a ban.
Far from deterring tourists, surely this ban would encourage them, knowing that the national problem was being tackled in Kirkbymoorside.
To shop in the local stores in the evening can be quite an intimidating experience for lone shoppers, having to run the gauntlet past several groups of on-street teenage drinkers.
